Trading Philosophy - James16 & The Searcher
The Thread That Taught Forex Traders to See – And Seek (Jame16)
I wanted to make a very quick post for you all about a thread on Forex Factory that Tom Dante put me on to when I was watching his YouTube catalog. Tom mentioned that when he was starting out, he stumbled across a very famous forex trading post called the “james16 Chart Thread”
From my research on the thread, it’s a well-known trading resource, founded in 2005 by an anonymous trader known as James16. It gained popularity for pioneering price action trading, where at the time, discussion around price action online was VERY limited! With over 7,000 pages to this thread, it’s a massive archive, but here’s the core of James’ approach:
Core Principles and Strategies
Pure Price Action: Trading "naked charts" (no indicators) using candlestick patterns like:
Pin Bars (reversal signals),
Double Bars (DBLHC/DBHLC for trend shifts),
Matching Highs/Lows (consolidation/reversal zones).
Because I don’t have a deep understanding of forex markets, I wanted to see if other traders have done reviews on James’ style of trading. I believe PriceActionNinja’s breakdown is a solid resource that goes over James’ concepts in a thorough way (instead of scrolling through 7000 pages worth of text and charts).
The Real Gem: "The Searcher"
What I liked most about the thread is presented in the first few paragraphs: a slightly edited quote by philosopher Paul Brunton that James16 left for the community. It perfectly captures the trader’s journey:
Trading isn’t just about charts—it’s about the relentless pursuit of growth. It resonated with me, and maybe it will with you too.
Happy trading and stay tuned!
